Monday Update #3 - Bulloch County Under Flash Flood Warning

At 7:00 PM on Monday, August 5, 2024 Bulloch County is under a Flash Flood Warning until 1:00 AM.  At 7:00 PM, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2.5 and 4.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing and expected to continue.

  • Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
  • Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Sheriff's Deputies are responding to numerous trees down on roadways and water covering roadways and power outages have began.  At the time this story was published there are nearly 800 customers without power in Bulloch County.  Public safety agencies are experiencing phone outage issues as well.

It is time to shelter in place and limit travel to necessary travel until conditions improve.

Weather updates

As of 6:00 pm on Monday, August 5, 2024 Bulloch County remains under a Tropical Storm Warning and the threat of Tornados has increased. 

A River Flood Warning has been issued to begin on Tuesday, August 6th at noon until future notice.  Major flooding is predicted on the Ogeechee River near Eden.  At 10:15 AM Monday, the stage was 8.5 feet. The river is expected to rise above flood stage Tuesday afternoon and continue rising to a crest of 18.7 feet early Friday afternoon. - Flood stage is 11.0 feet.

Public safety officials ask that citizens limit travel especially on dirt roads as those conditions will continue to deteriorate especially as rain begins.  This will be a multi day event bringing lots of rain and wind.  We do expect power outages an encourage citizens to make plans now to be without power.
