Local family holding raffle to help cover mother's liver transplant care

Retha Phillips Davis is in need of a new liver. Her family is raffling this Mother's Day gift basket in an effort to raise funds for her post-operative care.

A local family is reaching out for community help to raise money for their mother's future post-operative care following a necessary liver transplant. Retha Phillips Davis is 66 years old and was diagnosed with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver (NASH) cirrhosis back in 2014. In 2021, doctors told her she was in Stage 4 liver disease and would need a full liver transplant. Davis is currently on the National Liver Transplant List through the Emory Transplant Team in Decatur.

While her insurance will cover the cost of the surgery, expenses of $20,000 or more will mount as she begins a new lifestyle after the transplant with anti-rejection medications and travel for follow-ups.

"I am reaching out to friends and family who would like to donate to help with the cost when that time comes," Davis wrote in a GoFundMe message to donors. "All of your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much and may God Bless each and every one of you."

Davis's daughter, Anna Davis Artz, is organizing a Mother's Day raffle to raise funds for her post-operative care needs. The raffle is for a beautiful gift basket provided by Camhanaich Farms of Cobbtown, with more than $100 worth of goodies including goats' milk and lavender soaps made on their farm. Jaxe & Grace Boutique has also provided at $25 gift card for the winner.

A $1 donation will get you one entry in the raffle, and a donation of $5 or more will get you two entries. The drawing will be held Sunday, May 7, and the basket may be shipped if the winner is out of town.

To enter, please click here and then contact Anna after you have made your donation. You may text her at 770-658-7040 or send her a message on Facebook
