Two standout artists received top honors at this year’s Statesboro Regional Art Association (SRAA) Member Exhibition, a highly anticipated annual showcase of fine art now on display in the Rosengart Gallery at the Averitt Center for the Arts in downtown Statesboro.
Previously known as the “Juried Exhibition,” this year's event had no required theme, giving participating artists the freedom to submit their most meaningful recent works, resulting in a dynamic display of both 2-D and 3-D media from local artists.
Savannah-based curator and artist Antonia B. Larkin served as the guest juror for this year’s show. Larkin, who currently works as a Visual Arts Specialist for the City of Savannah’s Cultural Resource Department, is no stranger to the Rosengart Gallery—her solo exhibition Dearly Beloved was featured there earlier this year.
During the exhibition's opening reception on July 10, Larkin announced the winners:
The Roxie Remley Award, named in honor of the beloved local artist and educator, was awarded to Glery Becerra for his acrylic painting Where Time Seems to Slow Down.
Best in Show went to Syrin Johnson for his 3-D sculpture/mixed media water fountain, Border.
Both awards include cash prizes made possible through local donor support.
The SRAA Member Exhibition is open to the public and features a variety of 2-D & 3-D artwork by SRAA members.
The community is invited to visit the Rosengart Gallery (located at 33 E. Main Street, Statesboro, Georgia) where the exhibition will be on display through August 29. The gallery is currently open Monday-Thursday from 10am-4pm and on Friday from 9am-5pm.
