Bulloch County Coroner Richard Pylant has given Grice Connect on an update on the victim from the early Tuesday morning house fire reported by Grice Connect.
Coroner Pylant has confirmed that Margaret "Meg" Skinner, 70, a lifelong Statesboro resident, passed away around noon on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. Meg died from injuries she sustained in an early morning house fire at her home in Statesboro. Her husband was able to escape the fire without injury.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the 200 block of North Main Street at 4:49 a.m. after Bulloch County 911 received reports of the fire. Both Statesboro Fire and Bulloch County Fire departments responded to the call.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke coming from the residence and were informed that one person may still be inside. Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack on the blaze while conducting a search inside the home. They found an unresponsive woman, later identified as Meg Skinner, inside the house.
Bulloch County paramedics, who were on scene, provided urgent medical care before transporting her to East Georgia Regional Medical Center in critical condition. Despite their efforts, Meg later succumbed to her injuries.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within minutes of arriving, but the home suffered extensive damage from the fire, smoke, and water.
Pylant informed Grice Connect that Joiner Anderson Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements, which have not been finalized at this time. We will provide updates as details are confirmed.
Meg was a cherished members of the Statesboro community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
