Police dispatchers dedicate their time to helping the voice on the other end of the line when emergencies strike, offering a calm voice as they send out units to address the situation. Now, after spending years helping others, a local dispatcher is the one in need of help.
Kisha Tremble, a dispatcher who has worked at the Statesboro Police Department for 12 years, has dedicated much of her time to the people of Bulloch County, staying after-hours to make up for time lost after receiving a diagnosis nearly two years ago—one that left her in need of a kidney transplant.
Her days now often revolve around dialysis treatments and caring for her 9-year-old daughter, Kendall Tremble, who battles sickle cell disease.
Tremble knew she had kidney issues prior to being told she would need a transplant, finding it no surprise after her brother also faced a similar issue. As of today, Tremble has gone through seven surgeries since March 2025, staying on top of both her work-life and family-life at the same time.
After word of Kisha's need spread throughout the police department and sheriff’s office, officers like Bubba Revell and Jimmy Billings stepped up, organizing a fundraiser to help Tremble out financially while she manages her medical situation.
The “Dinners for a Difference” fundraiser offers $10 plates—including half a chicken, green beans, yellow rice and dessert—with proceeds helping cover the extra costs tied to her kidney transplant journey. Orders close on Tuesday, September 2, with pickup scheduled for Friday, September 12 from 11am to 2pm.
"I'm just amazed by all of the support that's coming through," said Tremble. "It means the world to me, and I'm just still actually in shock about it all."
Many of the officers and deputies were unaware of Tremble's condition, describing Tremble as a private person, until a member of the community reached out and asked if they knew. Revell and Billings began to plan a fundraiser, telling Tremble that this is something they were just going to do for her. The fundraiser has already reached between 200 to 300 donations, showing Tremble and others just how much our community cares.
Tremble is currently listed on multiple kidney transplant donor lists, a process that can take years—sometimes up to eight—before a match becomes available. The fundraiser and community support help ease the financial and logistical burdens in the meantime, but a living donor could dramatically shorten the wait.
"From the sheriff's office point-of-view, we're just doing what we do," said Revell, "We're helping family and helping a community."
