The Bulloch County community came together to celebrate Juneteenth on Saturday, June 21, 2025, with plenty of tasty food, retail vendors, live concerts and educational vendors scattered around the park—honoring African American history and culture in a vibrant, unifying event.
The event took place at Fair Road Park in Statesboro, Georgia, from 4pm to 9pm, marking it as the second day of celebration in honor Juneteenth, a holiday that was first celebrated in Texas on 1865 when enslaved people were officially declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth was celebrated on two separate days: one day of celebration on Friday, June 20 and the second on Saturday, June 21.
The booths were hosted by the Willow Hill Heritage & Renaissance Center, based in Portal, Georgia, and Juneteenth Bulloch—both organizations offering free, accessible events to the public.
The day was filled with banners and T-shirts sporting bright red, yellow and green in honor of the special day—people danced, kids played, lemonade sloshed from side to side in cups and the entire atmosphere pulsed with a joyous energy, all in remembrance and honor of June 19, 1856. Educational boots throughout the festival aimed to highlight a multitude of topics including voting rights, mental health resources, access to therapy and plenty more valuable information.
"Thank you to the vendors, everybody that came out, all of our sponsors—we appreciate everybody," said Travis Pryor, co-founder of Juneteenth in Statesboro.
