All-way stop intersection coming to SR 46 & Nevils Denmark July 10

In response to a high frequency of accidents and collisions, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has decided to convert the current two-way stop at the intersection of State Route (SR) 46 and Nevils Denmark Road to an all-way stop starting Thursday, July 10, weather permitting. This change, located approximately one mile north of the SR 67 intersection on SR 46 in Bulloch County, is a safety improvement measure aimed at reducing these incidents.

Leading up to the switch, GDOT will complete the following high-priority work:

  • SR 46: Install striping to eliminate the current left turn lanes onto Nevils Denmark Rd.
  • SR 46: Install stop signs, advance warning stop ahead signs, stop bars, stop words, and rumble strips.
  • SR 46 and Nevils Denmark Road: Install “All Way” plate on the bottom of stop signs.

Message boards will be in place on both approaches of SR 46 to notify the traveling public about the new all-stop condition. These boards will be installed two weeks prior to the switch and will remain for one week after the switch is complete.  GDOT sign and maintenance crews will be executing the above activities on the roadway leading up to the official all-way stop launch.

The Department urges all citizens who travel in this area to play their part in ensuring safety by driving alert and being mindful of the new stop conditions.
