Nothing says summer in the South like a warm, golden cobbler made from fresh-picked peaches, especially when those peaches are from Franklin’s Farmstand!
The hidden gem on highway 301 is more than just a fruit and vegetable stand; it’s a cornerstone of the local community and a throwback to the days when roadside markets were a common sight along Highway 301. The stand, filled with fresh satsumas and strawberries grown just steps away, embodies a commitment to local agriculture that is increasingly rare. Now, in the dog days of summer, Franklin's is there to offer visitors some old-fashioned respite in the form of a sweet summer treat: peach cobbler.
As any good chef (or grandma) knows, the perfect cobbler starts with the perfect ingredients. Sweet, perfectly ripe, and soft, Franklin's is sharing their secrets for choosing the perfect peaches alongside their favorite cobbler recipe below.
How to Pick the Perfect Peach:
1. Look for a peach with a sweet fragrance and a little “give” when you gently squeeze it.
2. The deeper the color (especially around the stem), the juicier it’s likely to be.
3. Avoid green-tinted skin and firm peaches — those still need time to ripen.
And here’s a local tip: the best peaches aren’t always the prettiest!
Now that you’ve got the goods, it’s time to bake up something sweet…
