On Saturday, February 27 Grice Connect reported that EGRMC had NO COVID patients on a ventilator and only 7 COVID patients in the hospital. The day prior, Friday, February 26 we reported there were four patients on a vent and nine hospitalized with COVID. Here is the data we reported for the last five days:
- Friday, February 26: 4 with COVID on a vent - 9 hospitalized with COVID
- Saturday, February 27: 0 with COVID on a vent - 7 hospitalized with COVID
- Sunday, February 28: 1 with COVID on a vent - 8 hospitalized with COVID
- Monday, March 1: 1 with COVID on a vent - 9 hospitalized with COVID
- Tuesday, March 2: 4 with COVID on a vent - 17 hospitalized with COVID
Grice Connect has now learned that EGRMC made a change on Saturday 2/27 which continued through Monday 3/1, in the way they reported COVID positive numbers for patients who were still in their isolation/quarantine period. This change resulted in a decrease in total inpatient COVID numbers and ventilator usage reported to Grice Connect.
After reviewing this change EGRMC determined that this does not accurately reflect bed and ventilator utilization as it relates to COVID patients.
Moving forward beginning Tuesday 3/2, EGRMC will revert back to their previous reporting standard which includes all COVID patients in-house, whether they are in isolation or have met CDC guidelines to be removed from isolation.
Getting the community consistent, reliable and accurate information is very important to us. For this reason we include multiple sources of information. In the body of our report we include daily a hospital stress report that comes from a reporting source outside of EGRMC. Included below is Saturday, February 27 stress report for EGRMC. This report shows that on Saturday 33% of all ICU beds and 17% of total beds were COVID patients.
Grice Connect appreciates EGRMC's leadership for determining this change, even though it may have followed CDC guidelines, did not accurately reflect what is happening in our community. They made this change without notification to Grice Connect, but upon reflection and review, advised us of the change and corrected this.
Bottom line is COVID is still effecting our community in dangerous ways. We must remain vigilant and continue to wear mask, social distance, avoid crowds and get vaccinated as soon as you are eligible.
Bulloch and Evans Counties both report one COVID death. Bulloch County is now at 92 COVID deaths, 50 were PCR & 42 were Rapid Antigen deaths. Evans county is now at 23 COVID deaths with 14 PCR & 9 Rapid Antigen deaths. wear your masks, avoid crowds & wash your hands.
