Young Democrats of Bulloch County hold second peaceful protest

Protesters in Downtown Statesboro

The Young Democrats of Bulloch County gathered on Saturday, March 1, for their second peaceful protest on the Bulloch County Courthouse square in downtown Statesboro.

The demonstration, which began at 1 p.m., was organized to take a stand against mass deportations and the prosecution of immigrants living peacefully in the United States.

With signs in hand and messages of unity, about 50 citizens participated in the two-hour event, voicing their concerns about federal policies they say are impacting families and communities locally.

Statesboro City Council Member Shari Barr joined the protest, emphasizing the importance of peaceful activism.

“The goal was to present a peaceful way to express our concerns with so many issues facing our county currently,” Barr said. “So many feel helpless in our community, and we wanted to give voice to people impacted by policies from Washington, D.C.”

The protest, which was the second in as many weeks, provided a platform for those advocating on behalf of immigrants who may not have the ability to speak for themselves. Organizers reiterated their message, encouraging attendees to “speak up for those who have no voice, or be voiceless when your own is silenced.”

The Young Democrats of Bulloch County have announced plans to return next week for another demonstration, continuing their push for awareness and change.
