The 2022 Gary Oglesby Memorial Youth Fishing Rodeo Tournament was held Saturday, October 8, rescheduled from its original date of October 1 due to Hurricane Ian.

This tournament, hosted by the Bulloch Bass Club, was for youth ages 8-15, and it was free to all who wished to participate. In addition, the club provided everything the youth needed for a day of fishing including a fishing pole, bait, and even free lunch for everyone.

Gary Oglesby Memorial Youth Fishing Rodeo

The youth fishing rodeo was held on Saturday morning. There were many moments of kids bonding with their parents, siblings, or friends during the calm atmosphere of the morning. Some decided to spend their time simply watching the fish get caught by contestants. Some contestants faced humorous moments during the tournament. One family kept catching the same baby turtle repeatedly, despite constantly letting it go back into the water.

The club provided all the supplies the youth needed included a fishing pole and bait. They also provided a hotdog lunch for everyone.

The rodeo ended with the kids who were lucky enough to catch something participating in a weigh-in of their fish to see who had the heaviest. While the winners were being decided, Morrell McCaskill, President of the Bass Club, and his assistant, the young Ms. George Ann, announced the raffle ticket winners.

Bulloch Bass Club

The Bulloch Bass Club was founded in 1994. It serves as a bass fishing recreational club for people who enjoy large-mouth bass fishing. They hold one tournament a month and 11 tournaments yearly, with a Christmas party in December to wrap it up. "We do fish for money," club president Morell Mccaskill said. "So you know, it does cost money to get into the club. Then every tournament is a pot tournament where all the people fish, and we'll put money in, but it's usually small, and it's mainly for fun and to learn other techniques from other fishermen."

To join the Bulloch Bass Club the entry costs are $100 a year, with tournament entry fees being $30.
