The Hearts and Hands Clinic's annual fundraiser, Grillin' for Healing, is celebrating its third year this weekend. NEW DATE: Due to predictions of inclement weather, the event has been moved to Sunday, March 24, 2024. Gates will open at 11 a.m. The festivities, including a barbecue cook-off, will be held at 1788 Akins Pond Road in Statesboro.
In addition to the delicious aroma of barbecue and live music by famed local band The Ripleys, the family-friendly event will feature bounce houses, cornhole, lots of room for the kids to run around, live music throughout the day, and of course, great barbecue for a great cause. This year, twelve teams will be competing for the barbecue championship, and the winners will be announced around 6:30 p.m.
Kara Holland, Hearts and Hands' Executive Director, says she wants to recognize the efforts of Matthew (PK) Huling, Bulloch County President of Citizens Bank of the South and Dr. John Allen, local surgeon with East Georgia Regional Medical Center, who host and plan the event. It been has been an incredible support for the clinic, raising $35,000 last year.
The event's proceeds go directly to providing free care to Hearts and Hands patients. For more than a decade, Hearts and Hands has been providing free primary health services for Bulloch County residents who are medically uninsured and have an income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The provided nearly 2,500 patient visits in 2023 thanks to 57 health care provider partnerships and 16 licensed volunteer medical and dental providers caring for patients on-site.
Sponsorships and barbecue teams are still being accepted for Saturday!
